A world extravaganza of games, shows, rides, animals, cars, and food located right here in our very own Dallas community. Texas State Fair opens its doors to the city of Dallas and its visitors from all over the world every year since 1886. The Texas State fair is a worldwide phenomenon and is considered one of the United State’s largest state fairs. When October strikes, make sure to grab the family, out-of-towners and your friends for a Texas tradition of eating and riding rides, and get ready to discover the history of the Texas State Fair.
For visitors, every year Oklahoma and Texas battle it out in a huge football showdown--The Red River Shootout! If you happen to be there the weekend of the big game, make sure to root for Texas!! But the fun doesn’t stop there; check out the 2011 Auto Show, Celebrity Kitchen, barnyard and petting zoo, nightly parades and firework show, as well as the vendors! If you got kids or if you are a kid at heart, take a stroll down the famous, colorful, and brightly lit Midway alleyway. Hop on a coaster or two, jump around in the fun house, or spin yourself into outer-space! Whatever you do, don’t forget to jump on one of the greatest rides at the fair, the Ferris wheel! Soaring high above the fair, riders can view the city of Dallas and on a crystal clear night see Ft. Worth! This is an iconic symbol of the State Fair and it’s something everyone should try out at least once!
Be sure to visit Texas State Fair’s number one celebrity, Big Tex. Big Tex, 52 feet tall, weighing in at 6,000 pounds, soaring high above fair attendants always giving everyone a big warm Texas Howdy Welcome! Viewers embraced by Big Tex feel at home on the fair grounds. Big Tex is the staple of the fair. He is surrounded by several food stands including The World Famous Fletcher Corn Dogs, the original corn dog maker. LYD unanimously votes Fletcher's corn dogs are hands down, the best corn dog at the fair. The classic golden, crispy, deep fried corn-breaded, all beef hot dogs are just what the doctor ordered. If you are an avid eater, like LYD, the state fair is the perfect opportunity to immerse your soul in the best fried food Texas can offer! The great thing about the fair is that the vendors who create the fried samplings have to be voted into the fair by a very hungry panel. This lets eaters know that these foods are the best and deserve to be in the bellys of Texans. Now to the fried toothsome foods! For staples at the fair indulge in Mexican nachos with beans or the famous roasted sweet turkey leg. Nothing says fair like a stick of meat! For the adventurous souls, lets get ready for the FRIED-NESS! These eats are always served pippin’ hot. This year, the winners were: Deep Fried Pineapple upside down cake, Deep fried salsa, Fried Autumn Pie. Also make sure to check out, El Bananarito, Walking Taco, and Han’s Kraut Ball. LYD is psyched to get our eat on this year at the fair!
Come one come all! THE TEXAS STATE FAIR IS OPEN!!! COME ON DALLAS!!! LET’S EAT!
