Palmer's - San Marcos, TX

San Marcos, Texas might be a little far from the big city, but there is definitely enough entertainment to fill a weekend with exuberance and adventure. Smack dab in the middle of the Hill Country lies Texas State University, two huge outlet malls, Comal and Guadalupe River, and, not to mention, all the great eateries. This town creates a unique, laid back atmosphere filled with dance halls, movie theaters, and the infamous tubing along the river. All of which is ready for you to take in and enjoy.

LYD spent a peaceful Saturday afternoon relishing in the Texas heat, floating the Guadalupe River with our closest friends, and meeting interesting people as we floated passed them. After spending hours in the sun, all we wanted to do was eat a relaxing, casual dinner. Luckily, the town of San Marcos provided many choices. LYD happened to come across Palmer’s Restaurant Bar and Courtyard in downtown where comfort food was plentiful and served with pizzazz, the atmosphere brought relaxation and enjoyable conversation, and the staff was ready to serve our hungry souls.

Every dish incorporates fresh ingredients into classic Mexican dishes with a play on spicy and sweet. The atmosphere is straight Austin-tastic with a bar setting opening up to tables over-looking Lake Austin for a view that showcases the burnt orange sunset that’s famous the world over. The random artifacts that cover the walls floor to ceiling are as eclectic as the locals and as colorful as the food they serve as well. Sit in or outside, take in the sight of the rolling hills of South Texas, and watch as Austin regulars canoe of kayak past down-river. It’s never a dull moment in the “Weird” city of Austin!

Il Cane Rosso - Dallas, TX

LYD Recommendation: Pizza parlours run rampant across the Dallas metroplex, but there is only one that is certified to make pizzas by trained Italian “pizzaolis”. Il Cane Rosso, located in the Deep Ellum district, introduces Italian flair by serving up Neapolitan pizzas, garden fresh salads, sliced deli salamis, and giant bowls of hearty pasta. Foodies will enjoy fior di latte mozzarella, homemade tomato sauce, and pizza dough that has been prepared with imported Italian flour. Nothing else can get more authentic Italian than this! So as Jay Jerrier says, get the ‘real thang’ at IL Cane Rosso.

A quality new pizza joint has made it to Dallas; Il Cane Rosso opened earlier this year by passionate entrepreneur, Jay Jerrier, determined to bring authentic Italian eats to the Dallas community. Inspired by his travels to Italy and an entrepreneurial drive to escape corporate America, Jay made his dream of opening a true Italian restaurant into a reality by way of Dallas’s Deep Ellum District. An original vision and a stint in Naples with Associazone Verace Pizza Napoletana (or “True Neapolitan Pizza Association”) started this venture and the Association’s strict but impeccable recipes and rules have turned it into a delicious pizza-making machine! Skip the airfare and the long lines at the security check point and get ready for a foodie journey straight to the heart of the Neapolitan countryside with LYD.
